Dr. Tom Hammett has been a long-standing professor on AUIP programs. His support of international education extends far beyond our programs to Tom’s involvement with the development, teaching and growth of study abroad programs.

Virginia Tech recently recognized his work by honoring him with the 2010 Alumni Award for Excellence in International Education.

The award is presented each year to a VT faculty or staff who has had a significant impact on international education at VT. Well, Tom has certainly accomplished that with leaps and bounds.

In the past 10 years, Tom has introduced VT courses with to Antarctica, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji (yes, to all of our destinations!), Nicaragua, India and Panama. He has also taught courses in Cuba, Belize and the Dominican Republic.

Join us in congratulating Tom on this award.

Pictured right, Tom is making AUIP’s Laura laugh hard at the NAFSA 2010 conference as he eats baked beans one by one, savoring them since there wasn’t much hearty food at this particular dinner function.
