How many of us have dealt with an airline flight delay? And how much of a pain is it when that delay drags on for hours and hours?

Unfortunately numerous of our students already this summer incurred flight delays, some up to 12 hours long!

No one likes a flight delay. But what can you do to pass the hours until departure? For students departing on programs, we offer these suggestions:

Read your course book. All the module readings takes hours to read, so why not get some of that work done in a boring place like an airport instead of when you’ll want to be playing on beaches.

Get to know your classmates. You’ll be spending the coming weeks with fellow students on your flight and now’s as good a time as any to start getting to know those people. Share with them your interests and goals for the program.

Stock up on American fare. Granted, airport prices are usually expensive. However, if you’re craving a Dr. Pepper or some Sour Patch Kids, then you better eat up at the airport because you’ll be hard-pressed to find these and many other junk foods in the South Pacific.

Grab a good read. Step into one of the multiple newsstands or bookshops to purchase a lengthy book. Your selection will keep you entertained during the delay and the flight. You might even have some still remaining to read once you’re abroad which is a good thing considering the high cost of books in Australia and New Zealand.
