Kate Mayfield, the University of Montana’s Sustainability in New Zealand and Australia student blogger, writes:

Before I jump into this post, I’d like to tell you a little about myself (in hopes you might actually heed my advice on occasion). My name is Kate Mayfield, and I am a 20-year-old University of Montana senior who has an itch to travel and a constant craving for adventure. I am majoring in business administration and am exploring interests in sustainable practices in business. I have traveled to many countries including Canada, England, France, Italy, Spain, New Zealand, and Australia, as well as over a dozen states in the U.S.

When I found out about the AUIP program that travels to New Zealand and Australia, I knew that I wanted to be a part of it. The experiences and relationships I gained from that trip have forever changed me as a person, and I am so thankful that I have an opportunity to help motivate others to attend any one of the amazing programs AUIP offers.

One of my favorite memories in New Zealand was swimming with the dolphins in Kaikoura. Being able to coexist with wild animals in their natural habitat opened my eyes to the vastness of the natural world, and was one of the many times I felt more connected to nature during my time in NZ and Sydney.

I’m not claiming to be a travel expert; in fact I am far from it. There is so much left of the world for me to see that sometimes I get overwhelmed and contemplate dropping out of school and buying a one way plane ticket (seriously, that happens a lot). I hope, however, that some of you will find that what I have to say is helpful, and can be a reference for you wherever you’re going. Thanks for reading!
