East Carolina University students on the Fiji program, have celebrated the 4th of July in the town of Nadi. First up on the day’s itinerary was a visit to the largest Hindu temple in the Southern hemisphere, pictured left. The group had a tour of the temple and some students took the opportunity to be blessed and offer prayers. Next was a traditional, vegetarian Indian lunch complete with Bindis for decoration. For a few of the students it was in fact, the first time they had tried Indian food and they were not disappointed, as shown by the smiling students shown below. Bellies full, the group then headed to the vegetable market and handicraft market in Nadi, where they were given tasks to make comparisons between prices of vegetables and the average Fijian salary, and then compare artifacts that were of genuine Fijian origin and those that were not.

It was certainly a great day learning about the different cultures present in Fiji, but with it being the 4th of July, the group did feel the need to introduce a little bit of their culture to the day by all going out for pizza once the day was done!
