In what’s being called the worst natural disaster in Queensland’s history, the northeast Australian state struggles to face the mass devastation of land, infrastructure, homes and businesses.
While the floods did not reach the 1974 Brisbane flood levels, the dense populations and development of Southeast Queensland made the destruction significantly worse than the 1974 disaster. As waters recede, such as these pictured left along Landsborough Terrace and Coronation Drive in Brisbane, the city and state begin the clean-up.
The state premier, Anna Bligh, has appealed for donations to help Queenslanders affected by the recent floods. To donate to the relief, visit the flood relief appeal and online donation page.
