That’s right, move over London, Rome and Paris, Lonely Planet has named Wellington the fourth best city in which to travel in the world, behind New York, Tangier and Tel Aviv naming it as the ‘coolest little capital in the world.’

It is the first time a New Zealand city has made it into the annual Best in Travel publication, a collection of the world’s best trends, destinations, journeys and experiences.

With all Wellington has to offer, from the international renowned World of Wearable Arts show held every September to the fascinating interactive national museum Te Papa and the bustling arts and cafe culture, we aren’t surprised with Wellington’s newest title. To the right is the view from Wellington Botanic Gardens, looking over the city and harbor.

Wellington is 45-minute flight from Christchurch, the last stop on the New Zealand program, and a one-hour flight from Auckland, from where the majority of international flights depart, making it an ideal option for a trip after the program ends and before heading home!
