If you’re a college student, then you probably don’t like being referred to as a ‘kid.’ But in parents’ eyes, their child is always their kid, regardless of age.

A recently published booklet, Backpack Kids: The Safety Planning Checklist for Overseas Travel, outlines essential information for pre-departure planning prior to studying, traveling or working abroad.

We think the guide is most suited for parents, but students can also garner worthwhile information, especially from the Resources section we mention later.

Written by Kate Goggin, Backpack Kids, pictured left, includes six chapters that count down chronologically to the trip and have a time line checklist. The Essential Planning chapter details very similar information to that found in our program handbook, such as tips for obtaining money overseas. We particularly like the Resources component that gives instant links to useful Web sites and emergency contacts.

Plus, the guide only cost 99 cents to download to your iPhone or iPad! Or download a PDF version here.
