Visual Arts in Sydney

Program Description





This two and a half-week study abroad program will examine the cultural representations and social issues expressed in art. Based in Sydney, the largest metropolis in Australia, students will learn to explore ideas and think differently about their personal encounters with public art. Through a variety of excursions the course will focus on Aboriginal history and culture, colonization, and persisting social issues as expressed in commissioned public art, community activism and cultural expression in public art installations.

  • Explore some of Australia’s most well-known icons such as the Opera House and Sydney Harbor Bridge.
  • Learn about Aboriginal culture and it’s 50,000 – 80,000 year history – the world’s oldest surviving culture.
  • Discover the natural environment of the Blue Mountains.
