However, the country has many unknown fun factoids.<\/p>\n<p><i>Alex Munoz, the <\/i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.illlinoisabroad.org\"><i>Illinois Abroad<\/i><\/a><i> marketing intern, recaps some facts she learned during her <\/i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.auip.com\/adventure\"><i>New Zealand Adventure Tourism and Recreation<\/i><\/a><i> study abroad program: <\/i><\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A kiwi is not a fruit. In fact, a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.doc.govt.nz\/conservation\/native-animals\/birds\/birds-a-z\/kiwi\/\">kiwi<\/a> is a flightless bird and native to New Zealand. An interesting fact about the kiwi is that the female is larger than the male. In the 1980s, there were about 20 sheep for each human. The majority of New Zealand\u2019s sheep in New Zealand on the South Island.<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.allblacks.com\">All Blacks<\/a> have had a little over 1,100 players. However, there have been 17 sets of father and son, and 32 sets of brothers included in this number.<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 English and M\u0101ori are New Zealand\u2019s two official languages. In M\u0101ori, the name for New Zealand is Aotearoa.<\/p>\n<p>5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0120737\/\"><i>The Lord of the Rings<\/i><\/a> trilogy was filmed in some of the country\u2019s most beautiful places, including Matamata, Wellington, Canterbury, Mackenzie Country, the Southern Lakes and Fiordland.<\/p>\n<p>6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 New Zealand is the only country with the right to put <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1170358\/combined\"><i>The Hobbit<\/i><\/a>-related images on its money.<\/p>\n<p>7.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The extreme sport of bungee jumping developed into a phenomenon after AJ Hackett and Henry van Asch jumped off of the Kawarau Bridge in 1988. The Kawarau Bridge is located outside of Queenstown and is the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bungy.co.nz\/kawarau-bungy-centre\/kawarau-bungy\">world\u2019s first commercial bungee jump<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>8.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newzealand.com\/au\/milford-sound\/\">Milford Sound<\/a> is the most famous tourist destination in New Zealand. Milford Sound can be seen by boat tour, canoe, hike, under water observatory and scenic flights. The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.teara.govt.nz\/en\/historic-earthquakes\/page-13\">February 22, 2011 earthquake<\/a> hit Christchurch with a 6.3 magnitude, killed 185 people and damaged a significant part of the city.<\/p>\n<p>10.\u00a0 New Zealand has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mch.govt.nz\/nz-identity-heritage\/national-anthems\">two national anthems<\/a>.
