The retreat took place in <a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?f=q&amp;source=s_q&amp;hl=en&amp;geocode=&amp;q=Hanmer+Springs,+Canterbury,+New+Zealand&amp;sll=37.0625,-95.677068&amp;sspn=51.443116,125.332031&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;hq=&amp;hnear=Hanmer+Springs,+Canterbury,+New+Zealand&amp;z=10\">Hanmer\u00a0 Springs<\/a>, which is approximately 85 kilometers northwest of our main office in Christchurch, New Zealand. <a href=\"http:\/\/auip.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/08\/eleanor-sheena-cooking.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-239\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/auip.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/08\/eleanor-sheena-cooking.jpg?w=225\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/auip.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/eleanor-sheena-cooking.jpg 2112w, https:\/\/auip.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/eleanor-sheena-cooking-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/auip.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/eleanor-sheena-cooking-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We all stayed in a five-bedroom house, which served as our accommodation, meeting space and caf\u00e9-style dining. Our agenda was comprehensive (read: meeting from 8 a.m. until evening daily) and focused on past delivery, accountability and future growth of the company.<\/p>\n<p>The highlight, for me, was the second evening when we sat in our own \u201ccaf\u00e9\u201d wining and dining and exchanging stories. As a team bonding, we each shared two childhood experiences from our life at age five to eight. It was a great way to get to know more about our work mates and acknowledge achievements.<\/p>\n<p>The main reason for the retreat, of course, was not to wine and dine but give everyone the opportunity to learn more about the strategic direction of the company, put forward ideas and understand everyone\u2019s roles.
