We think the zero-volt challenge is a fantastic idea to not only help the environment but also your bank balance!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/auip.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/09\/smart-strip.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-280\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/auip.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/09\/smart-strip.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"282\" height=\"178\" \/><\/a>Many modern appliances are still using power even if the actual appliance is turned off, which results in unnecessary power consumption and higher bills. The zero-volt challenge has three steps:<\/p>\n<p>1) Download a zero-volt worksheet from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.globalstewards.org\/challenge-worksheet.htm\">this site<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>2) Walk through your home and unplug every appliance until your electricity meter has stopped running and note what you unplug on the worksheet.<\/p>\n<p>3) Reconnect those items that need to be connected to a power source 24\/7 and consider which other items you have remaining. Could you leave them unplugged or purchase a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/s\/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&amp;field-%20keywords=bye+bye+standby&amp;x=0&amp;y=0\">bye bye standby<\/a>?
